Das Copal Quintet entstand als Idee nach einer spontanen Impro-Session im Sommer 2018 in Bonn und fand seine jetzige Gestalt nach verschiedenen weiteren Treffen und Konzerten der einzelnen Mitglieder. Die expressive, improvisierte Musik des Copal Quintets wird durch Reflexionen und Interferenzen der musikalischen Impulse der Musiker geprägt. Die Besetzung mit zwei Schlagzeugern und drei Bläsern ermöglicht starke dynamische Gegenüberstellungen und Kombinationen die zusätzlich durch die verschiedenen Backgrounds der Musiker aus drei Ländern (Portugal, Mexiko und Deutschland) geprägt sind. So vermischen sich Norbert Steins Pata-Musik mit Elementen der Neuen Musik bis hin zu Noise Music. Die Musik des Copal Quintets ist in dieser Hinsicht ein dialektisches Spiel des Ganzen mit seinen Teilen und ein intensives Hörerlebnis.

The Copal Quintet came about as an idea after a spontaneous improv session in the summer of 2018 in Bonn and found its current form after various other meetings and concerts by the individual members. The expressive, improvised music of the Copal Quintet is characterized by reflections and interferences of the musicians' musical impulses. The line-up of two drummers and three horns enables strong dynamic juxtapositions and combinations that are also shaped by the different backgrounds of the musicians from three countries (Portugal, Mexico and Germany). Norbert Stein's Pata music is mixed with elements of new music and even noise music. In this respect, the music of the Copal Quintet is a dialectic play of the whole with its parts and an intensive listening experience.
